  • If the discharge comes into contact with sperm, the smell becomes even stronger.
  • Pain during sex

Candida

Candida is a yeast that everyone has. When the balance in the vagina gets disturbed, you get excessive growth of candida. Then you have a fungal infection.

Causes are:

  • When your period is due. This is due to the hormonal changes in your body.
  • Wearing excessively tight clothing or thongs. Candida feels very much at home in a warm and humid place.

Symptoms

  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Swollen labia
  • White clumpy discharge.
  • Pain during sex and urination.

Testing

We only test for bacterial vaginosis and candida when you have the symptoms. Do you have symptoms? Then make an appointment for an STI consultation at P&G Zevenhuizen.

Treatment

Bacterial vaginosis is easy to treat with antibiotics. A candida infection can be treated well with a vaginal cream and vaginal tablets. These two products are available without a prescription. Note: these products can affect a condom up to 3 days after use. So it is better not to work for a while. You also give your vagina the rest it needs to heal properly. Is the fungal infection persistent? Consult a doctor.
