The IUD is a plastic object that is placed in the uterus. This is done by a doctor. The IUD can stay in place for five years. When it is removed, you can soon become pregnant again. There are different types of IUDs: with hormones or with copper.
Advantages: You do not have to think about it for five years. With a copper IUD: you do not use hormones, so your cycle remains normal. With a hormone IUD: your period becomes lighter and sometimes is absent completely.
Disadvantages: With the copper IUD: your menstruation may be more intense in the first months.
With the hormone IUD: you have no control over your period. You can get unpredictable bleeding.
