Depo-Provera

Depo-Provera is an injection of hormones. It must be given once every 12 weeks. This can be done by a doctor or a nurse. If you stop taking the injections, your period will automatically return, and you can become pregnant again. This may take a bit longer. Sometimes, it takes up to a year.

Advantage: You do not have to think about it for a few months.

Disadvantages: You have no control over your period. You can get unpredictable bleeding (can also be completely absent). If you get side effects from Depo-Provera, you have to wait until it has worked its way out of your system.
